THERAPY FOR ADOLESCENTS & PRETEENS

Being a teen is hard. There is the stress of schoolwork and college prep, social circles are constantly shifting, peer pressure is abundant—and this is all set against the backdrop of trying to build one's own identity and manage the tricky balance of independence and reliance on one's parents. I provide a space where teens can come and be completely themselves, talk about absolutely anything, know that another person is taking them seriously, and feel less alone with their struggles.

Psychotherapy with adolescents and preteens is similar to that with adults in that the work is a conversation between the two of us. Typically, we will talk about areas of life that are causing distress or unwanted symptoms (such as peer interactions, family dynamics, and academic stress), and we’ll work toward putting all thoughts and feelings into words to help relieve emotional pain. I will also meet with parents as needed to help them best support their child.
